Our Story

Since our founding, Holy Himalaya has been more than a destination - it is a family tradition of welcoming the world to the Himalayas with decades of dedicated hospitality.

A family's way of welcoming people home

Since our founding, Holy Himalaya has been a family's way of welcoming people to the mountains they call home. What started as one small act of hospitality grew, slowly and deliberately, into something larger: a hotel in the heart of Thamel, apartments where people could stay for a season or a lifetime, a guesthouse tucked into a farming village, and treks that carry travelers from the valleys of Nepal all the way to the sacred trails of Kailash.

Hospitality isn't a service. It's a relationship.

Every part of that growth has stayed close to the same idea. Whether it's a guest arriving in Kathmandu for the first time, a trekker preparing for weeks on the trail, or someone settling into an apartment for months at a stretch, the people behind Holy Himalaya believe hospitality isn't a service, it's a relationship. That belief is what connects the hotel staff, the trekking guides, and the team working quietly behind the scenes at Rato Ghar.

More than three decades on, still the same way.

More than three decades later, Holy Himalaya is still run the same way it always has been, by people who see every guest, tenant, and trekker as someone worth taking care of properly. The mountains haven't changed. Neither has the way we welcome people to them.

Our Hotel

"In the heart of Thamel, Hotel Holy Himalaya blends the heritage of the valley with the comfort of a modern stay, wood carvings, quiet courtyards, and a warm welcome at every door."

Our Journeys

"From valley trails to the sacred Kailash circuit, our treks carry travelers across Nepal and Tibet, planned with care and led by a team that knows every path."

Our Homes

"Beyond the hotel, we offer apartments in the city and a farmhouse in the hills, places to live, rest, and slow down, each one carrying the same care as everything we build."

Our Values

As part of how we run Holy Himalaya, we try to keep our operations in step with the community and the land around us, without asking guests to compromise on comfort.

Holy Himalaya Hotel interior

Since 1992, responsible hospitality has been at the core of how we operate.

Across the hotel, the apartments, and journeys, we try to keep our footprint light. Food is sourced locally where we can, energy use is kept in check rather than left to run freely, and the people who work with us, guides, hosts, and staff, come from the same communities we operate in.

This isn't a separate initiative sitting apart from the business, it's simply how Holy Himalaya has run since the beginning. Taking care of the place is part of taking care of the people who stay with us, work with us, and walk the trails with us.

If you visit any of our properties, from the courtyards of the hotel to the quiet of Montari's village setting, you'll find the same thinking behind it, comfort that doesn't come at the cost of the place providing it.

Small choices, made consistently, since 1992.
